It should fit snugly over your teeth without being uncomfortable or causing pain — snug, but never sore. A few days of break-in is normal, especially for night guards.

Custom-made items aren’t eligible for return unless they’re defective, and sale items are final unless defective or damaged on arrival. No — remove your retainer or night guard before eating or drinking (water is fine) to prevent staining and damage, and clean it before it goes back in.

Soak them in a cleaner made for dental appliances, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid bleach, alcohol and alcohol-based mouthwash — they can degrade the plastic and cause discoloration. It’s best to use a non-abrasive cleaner — toothpaste may scratch the surface of retainers, night guards and trays. Mild soap or a dedicated retainer cleaner works.
