Soft has a flexible, cushioned feel. Hard has a firm, rigid feel. Hybrid combines a softer inner layer with a harder outer surface. Compare all three. Your dentist can advise which construction suits your teeth and bite.

A night guard and a retainer have different purposes. A retainer is prescribed to maintain tooth position after orthodontic treatment. Ask your dentist or orthodontist how to manage grinding if you also need a retainer.
Follow the care instructions supplied with your guard. Rinse it with lukewarm water and use a suitable gentle, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid hot water and abrasive toothpaste. Store it in a ventilated case when it is not in use.
Wear depends on your grinding, material and care. Check for cracks, holes, warping or a changing fit. Ask your dentist if you are unsure whether it still provides an appropriate barrier.
